New Work: Stationery for Stash nails it

May 19, 2015 Wes Phelan

Last year we posted about beginning work with a new client, Stash Design. Stash takes upcycling to a new level, repurposing discarded scrap wood and metal into incredible artistic furnishings, and unique, stylish finish-out for spaces. Chances are, if you been out and about to some of Dallas’ hot spots in the last couple of years, you’ve seen their work.

Our relationship with Stash was initiated with a branding project, where we helped to craft a positioning line and identity for their company. We’ve most recently completed a stationery system that we think nails it. Using recycled paper (of course) we repurposed a collection of sketches and doodles from Gary Buckner, Jr., the creative genius behind the magic at Stash. Gary has been known to whip out a pencil during his meetings with potential clients and let his imagination get to work right on the spot. As you can see, the combination of Neenah Environment Desert Storm paper, Gary’s sketches, and a limited color palette resulted in a stationery set worth writing home about.

New Work: Spot-on design for precision machine shop

April 21, 2015 Wes Phelan

The Banowetz team just completed a fun naming, identity and merchandising project for a CNC (computer numeric control) machine shop specializing in custom-cut metal and plastic parts. The owners of the company (formerly called Precision Dynamic) came to us wanting to update their brand. With accuracy that’s within ten one-thousandths of an inch, they are not your average operation. They’re also fast and reasonably priced for the exceptional quality of their product. In an industry where speed usually outweighs quality and vice versa, they wanted to establish themselves as being a cut above the competition.

Our first task was to come up with a new name and positioning line that more accurately described the company and the service they provide. We presented numerous options, with the client landing on “TrueAxis. Maximum Momentum / Absolute Accuracy.” We designed nine logo options, followed by some color exploration. Once the design and color palette were finalized, we went on to create a stationery system, as well as hats and shirts for the staff. Here’s a look at some of the finished pieces. We think the logo has a nice bold, graphic look that makes a strong impression — and a great deboss.

Yum! Delicious New Work: Stocks & Bondy

April 14, 2015 Wes Phelan

Two of the greatest things about being in the design and advertising business are the varied types of projects we get to work on and all the people we get to know. Years ago, we worked with Chef Joanne Bondy when she was cooking up scrumptious dishes at the beloved Dallas restaurant Ciudad. So when she contacted us about her new venture, Stocks & Bondy, we were chomping at the bit to get involved.

Slated to open at the Dallas Farmers’ Market in Spring 2015, Stocks & Bondy promises to be the new BFF for home cooks and local chefs alike. By providing traditional and modern stocks and sauces made with only the best all-natural sustainable ingredients, Chef Bondy will provide her customers with a head start in the kitchen. Her product line will include regional flavors from multiple cultures, and will be available for retail and wholesale use. Part of our challenge was to help clarify her services with an informational, but clever, positioning line and to help create a unique and memorable brand.

Here are some of the options presented and the finished product. We think it turned out quite tastefully. Take a look — and be sure to keep an eye out for this soon-to-be staple for all the Dallas foodies out there.
