Dominic Flask: A colorful character.

From the golden plains of Kansas hails independent designer and illustrator Dominic Flask. His obsession with all things mid-century really shines through in his body of colorful and heavily geometric work. Dominic's talents span several mediums including interactive, mobile, print, identity and motion design.

Dominic earned an MFA in Graphic Design from Fort Hays State University, and has since embarked on a mission to make the world a more beautiful place to live in, one piece at a time. His career as a designer has provided him with unique and interesting opportunities to work with everyone from small local businesses to international corporations. When he's not in the studio, you can find him educating budding designers at Wichita State University.

Dominic's design style is structurally tight and loaded with bright and exciting colors. Each of his projects is comprised of unique hues that weave together into harmonious color palettes and bring a high level of originality to his entire body of work. Dominic breaks down complex forms into simple geometric shapes, which make his designs simple while retaining depth and movement. Mix this with his use of colors, and you get a level of geometrical whimsey that really puts his work in a league of its own.

You can view more of Dominic's work on dribbble and see what he has to say on Twitter. Also, check out his "Intro to Color Theory: Color and Emotion" class on Skillshare.

New Year, New Checklist: Designer resolutions.

January 13, 2014 DJ Sherman
Banner-Image_New_Years_Blog.jpg

It’s a tradition: at the end of every year, people look inside themselves to find the things they’d like to change, accomplish or improve upon. They then create a list of resolutions as a guide to how they’d like to ideally live in the coming year — and hopefully adhere to them. So, we thought it would be fun to compile a list of our resolutions as designers.

In 2014, we resolve to...

1. not use the typeface Gotham in every project.

2. come to terms with the fact that Comic Sans does have a place in the world.

3. stop awkwardly caressing interesting papers in public.

4. draw more.

5. do better and smarter work than in the years past.

6. kern confidently (and consistently).

7. continue learning and honing our craft.

8. eat less candy at our desks. (Yeah, right.)

9. keep our work space clean.

We hope 2013 was the best year of your lives and that 2014 will be even bester.

10. (oh and last but not least... always run spell check.)
