Watashi wa Nihon ni ittekimashita (I went to Japan)

June 14, 2016 Wes Phelan

Recently, I went on a trip I had dreamed of taking since I was a child; a trip to the land of the rising sun (Nippon). What did I experience in Japan? A culture full of considerate and reserved people. People that were quiet and kept to themselves, yet helpful and warm. Of course there are always exceptions, but more often than not, my friend and I felt welcome. To complement the locals there was a visible and deep history, kept alive while a bustling metropolis grew around it. In all, my friend and I were there for 18 days. We made our way by bullet train and taxi, and on foot to Tokyo, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Nikko. If you've never been, you should go. If not for the food, for the history. If not for the history, for the sites. If not for the sites, for the people. Just go. I took over 2,500 pictures while I was there, and I've finally edited them down to a manageable number. So if this little paragraph didn't convince you to buy a plane ticket, maybe some selects of those photos will. Ganbatte!

New Banowetz Intern: It’s a Nguyen/Nguyen for Everyone

June 7, 2016 Wes Phelan

Meet Karen Nguyen (pronounced “win” — hence the clever headline), the new Banowetz + Company intern who joined us at the end of May. The design team looked at a lot of resumes and books (that’s creative lingo for “portfolios”) before offering her the position. Karen brings smart ideas and design skills to Banowetz, and has already been recognized in several awards shows for her creative ability. Currently finishing up a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Arlington, she will be with us for the summer and will have the opportunity to participate on various projects while shadowing our designers throughout the day. When Karen is not honing her design skills, she is a wife to Thong (pronounced “tong”), a mother to Colette, a Tetris addict, an aspiring cook and a wannabe traveler. We’re excited to have her on board, and hope you will have the chance to get to know her during her time with us.

Dallas Market Center + Banowetz = De Stijl-ish New Logo

May 31, 2016 Wes Phelan

Dallas Market Center recently partnered with Banowetz + Company to create an identity for their new Interior Home + Design Center. This marketplace will be located in the soon-to-be renovated International Design Center building which was originally built in 1957. Housing showrooms for home decor and interior design community, the mid-century modern building will keep the iconic Mondrian inspired facade but will undergo extensive upgrades which will stay true to the building’s original architecture. As such the new logo reflects that direction. Visit their new site and see for yourself: dallasmarketcenter.com/ihdc/
