New Hire, Old Friend: Lisa Dudley joins B+C team

December 2, 2014 Wes Phelan

Banowetz + Company is excited to welcome Lisa Dudley to the team as our full-time production artist. We’ve had the pleasure of working with Lisa for well over a decade in a freelance capacity. She’s often come to our aid when we found ourselves long on deadlines and short on time.

A native Texan, Lisa grew up near Tyler and moved to Dallas after high school. She graduated from the Art Institute in ’92 and has been working as a freelance production artist since then. Not only is she artsy, but she’s craftsy too, creating homemade Christmas ornaments for friends and clients each year. (I’m happy to say I have a collection on my tree!) She’s also done some incredible woodcut illustrations. And lucky for us, she loves to bake — cookies and homemade candy. Needless to say, we’re excited that her start date’s just in time for the holidays! Be sure to help us welcome her, and who knows ... you might make her holiday list, too.

Big Honor in the Big Apple: Photographer Maxine Helfman

November 5, 2014 Wes Phelan

In the world of photography, receiving an IPA — International Photography Award — is a huge honor. Even to be a finalist is an outstanding achievement. So we are incredibly excited for our long-time friend and collaborator, Maxine Helfman, for being selected as a finalist for the International Photographer of the Year award for her fine art work. The finalists and winners were recognized at Carnegie Hall in NYC this past Sunday at The Lucie Awards, a premier annual event honoring the greatest achievements in photography. Not too shabby! In the end, the award went to photographer Sandro. More on him and the other category winners can be found at http://www.photoawards.com/en/

In our ten years of working with Max on projects such as NorthPark Center and Eiseman Jewels, we’ve been blown away by her incredible eye and creative vision — not to mention her calm, cool and collected disposition, her tenacious work ethic  and how incredibly prolific she is. We’re honored to be in such good company.

Candid Camper Logo: A snapshot of recent work

October 28, 2014 Wes Phelan
CndidCmpr_BlogPostHeader.jpg

Over the last several months, we’ve had a great time working with the talented guys over at Stash Design. (You may recall our blog about them last year.) They are responsible for the design of several Dallas hot spots such as Oddfellows, Bar Belmont and Chicken Scratch, and if you’ve visited any of these establishments, you’ve seen the results of their creativity in the interior design and finish out. Well, being the innovators they are, they came to us with a unique naming and branding project for a mobile photobooth, which they created using a re-purposed mid-century camper. Uh, fun! Not only is the photobooth itself incredible — the exterior is completely covered in patina-ed copper and the interior in reclaimed wood — but we love the concept as well. It will get great exposure being parked at special events, weddings, parties and happenings around town.

The client chose our proposed name, “Candid Camper”, which we think is perfect given the playful nature of the filmstrip-style photos and the fact that it is, well, a camper. We also just finalized the branding — take a peek at the options we proposed and the selected winner below. It was a fun project to work on, given the myriad of themes to draw upon for inspiration, and we’re very happy with the end result. Watch for the Candid Camper around town. And if you get the chance, climb in and say “cheese”.
