DSVC Show-Offs: Entries Accepted

June 7th, will be the yearly award show for the Dallas Society of Visual Communications, one of the largest independent clubs for creative professionals including designers, art directors, copywriters and photographers. It’s always a great opportunity to see what other regional design studios are producing, and to showcase our work. Firms enter work into the show hoping to receive accolades on the night of the event.

This year, two of our recent projects were accepted. The first is a series of pieces for Hilton Dallas / Park Cities to drive more traffic to its recently renovated restaurant, Grain. The layouts pick up on the flavor of the decorative logo and the elaborate chalkboard signage featured on premises. Copy on check-in materials and in-room collateral was crafted to entice hotel guests to dine downstairs versus leaving the hotel, especially during lunch. And clever direct mail pieces invite area neighbors to check out the fare, as well.

The second entry selected is a collection of info graphics created for our client Allie Beth Allman & Associates, the largest single-office residential real estate firm in Dallas. The graphics utilize a simple color scheme and smart illustrations to present basic information in a visually interesting way.

We’re proud of these pieces so wish us luck, and we’ll keep you “posted” on the results of the show.

Timely News: The Spring NorthPark Watch Book

May 2, 2014 Kris Murphy
NorthPark_Watch_Book_Spring_2014

With special occasions like Mother’s Day and graduation popping up on the calendar, it’s the perfect time for the release of the spring 2014 NorthPark Center Timepiece Book. NorthPark is the place to shop for exquisite gift ideas and offers the most extensive selection of fine timepieces in the southwest.

Hoping to entice potential gift-buyers, we filled the pages with large, detail-rich, full-color images of luxury timepieces from brands such as BVLGARI, Ulysse Nardin and Jaeger-LeCoultre. The finished books were mailed to affluent households in the DFW area and were poly-bagged with the May issue of FD Luxe, where we hope they will tempt the appetites of aficionados and collectors... or just those looking for an exceptional gift that will stand the test of time.

With Bated Breath: Experiencing the Bates exhibit

April 16, 2014 Kris Murphy

This April marks Leon’s 50th trip around the sun and to celebrate, he took the Team to the David Bates exhibit at the Nasher Sculpture Center. We appreciate his making sure we get a regular dose of culture and some time out of the office. The exhibit is part of a first-time collaboration between the Nasher and The Modern in Fort Worth, where the two museums are simultaneously featuring the same artist but with emphasis on different works: Dallas has more sculpture and works on paper; Fort Worth has more paintings.

If you haven’t seen it, you should. It’s really wonderful. We were all completely fascinated by how convincingly many of Bates’ sculptures appear to be constructed out of various materials other than what they are — bronze. Even under the closest scrutiny, many appear to be made from scrap corrugate and pieces of wood. Add to that the inclusion of some pieces that actually are wood, and it made for a fun guessing game. Equally intriguing was the comparison and contrast of his three-dimensional interpretation of an object versus his painting, and seeing just how beautifully it translated from one medium to the other.

After all that art gazing, we of course had worked up a thirst and appetite, so we ventured over to St. Ann Restaurant and Bar for a lovely evening on the patio with cocktails and appetizers. Here’s to Leon having more birthdays!
