Bridging Art and Fashion: NorthPark fall shoot at Crystal Bridges

July 14, 2015 Wes Phelan

It’s that wonderful time of year again – Banowetz + Company is busy working on the fall fashion shoot and photo editing for our long-time client, NorthPark Center. One of the things we love most about NorthPark is their involvement in, passion for and promotion of the arts. And as part of a continuing emphasis on their tagline “The Art of Shopping,” we took this shoot to our neighboring state of Arkansas to the spectacular Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville. Not only does the museum house a fantastic collection of masterworks from the colonial era to modern day, but the exquisite architectural design of this landmark structure by world-renowned Moshe Safdie offers stunning interior and exterior spaces flooded with natural light and materials, set against a backdrop of the Ozarks.

Once this ideal location was determined, our quest was to find the perfect faces for the fall campaign. We were delighted to bring New York talent Zhenya Katava and Daniel de Wolf into the mix, who were both exceptional on- and off-set. Our brilliant creative team collaborated with our client to pair new fall looks from top designers, such as Roberto Cavalli, Valentino, Burberry, Mulberry and Ferragamo, with artistic works from the collection at Crystal Bridges. The finished shots as fascinating as they are rich in color and texture.

This September, the new campaign will roll out nationally in Harper’s Bazaar, W, and WWD, as well as locally in PaperCity, FD, Modern Luxury and Patron. Last but certainly not least, the entire campaign will be showcased in a perfect-bound book and mailed to 70,000 homes. Just to whet your appetite, here are a few behind-the-scenes pics from the photoshoot. As summer starts coming to a close, be on the lookout for the unveiling of the incredible final images and see what wardrobe “must haves” to add to your shopping list for your next visit to NorthPark.

We’re on a Roll: Great New Work for CoreTech

June 9, 2015 Wes Phelan

Banowetz + Company just wrapped up a naming and branding project for a new Dallas-based business that specializes in the rebuilding and remanufacturing of cores used for aluminum machining. These six- to eight-foot-long rolls are used by other businesses in the production of aluminum sheeting. The excessive heating of these cores for this process requires that they frequently be replaced — however, rebuilding them is a much more cost effective option. Here enters our client and their expertise.

They needed a name and tagline that would help identify just what type of work they do, and that would establish them as specialists in their industry. We presented numerous options, and the client selected the name “CoreTech Industries” with the positioning line “Precision. Performance.” Once we had that determined, we rolled out several different visual approaches to the logo. You can see the one they chose and some of the other options below, each with a little different spin on it.

A Blast from the Past: The Dunamoo Logo

June 2, 2015 Wes Phelan

It’s crazy, but it’s true:“Retro” no longer refers only to the look and feel of the 1950s, but instead can now be a flashback to the less-distant 1980s and ‘90s. (Does that make some of us old?) Well, if so, we haven’t lost our sauce, because we just completed a spot-on logo for Dunamoo clothing (pronounced doo-nah-moo), that takes all of its inspiration from late-eighties and early-nineties thrift store finds.

With a name that means “to empower,” a young demographic of 16- to 26-years-old, and color schemes and patterns that could have walked right off the set of a Spike Lee film, the project opened the door to the exploration of fun color, bold textures and downright funky typography. A lot of good work came out of the creative process, and our client found a look that captures the essence of their brand — soon to be emblazoned on jerseys, hoodies and other clothing items. Take a look at some of the options and what was selected below.
