The Making of NorthPark The Magazine

Almost a year in the making, Banowetz + Company recently completed the premiere issue of NorthPark The Magazine, NorthPark Center's new publication that captures the essence of the world-renowned shopping center. To bring the magazine to life, Banowetz + Company and NorthPark Center collaborated with many creative contributors, including photographers, illustrators, writers and artists. Now that the magazine is out in the world and available at NorthPark Center, we wanted to share an inside look at how it all came together.

B+C has produced The Art of Shopping campaigns for NorthPark for many years, which featured the shopping center's luxury fashion offerings photographed in world-class art museums. While the campaigns were very well-received, representing NorthPark and its retailers in a more comprehensive way had always been discussed. Last September, NorthPark and Banowetz began developing the magazine concept and collaborating with talented contributors to make it a reality. At our studio, the creative team covered the walls with inspiration as we began working on initial concepts, and multiple layout options were presented to NorthPark.

In planning out the stories for NorthPark The Magazine, NorthPark collaborated with Terri Provencal, editor of Patron Magazine, and a stable of select writers, who were able to articulate the NorthPark experience in new ways. We teamed with Tammy Theis, creative director of Wallflower Management, to act as the contributing Fashion Director and provide critical fashion and styling insight alongside NorthPark's team.

With the magazine, we wanted to showcase a variety of creative voices and perspectives, and for our features, we collaborated with many talented photographers: Maxine Helfman artfully captured NorthPark's fall women's luxury fashion in the world-renowned Dallas Museum of Art, Rambo (yes, just Rambo) shined the cinematic spotlight on luxury menswear at the historic Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff, Claudia Grassl took us to small-town Tehuacana, Texas to showcase the Americana trend in our contemporary fashion feature, Maxine Helfman photographed shoes and handbags as an artful presentation, and Geof Kern elevated fine jewelry to fine art through masterfully crafted photo assemblage.

A lot of thoughtful detail went into the final production of the magazine, and we partnered with Best Press, Inc. on printing and fulfillment. We elected to print on uncoated paper from Clampitt Paper, which has a more tactile feel and is less common in the magazine world. Banowetz and NorthPark were on-site for multiple press checks as the team at Best Press expertly navigated the printing process.

NorthPark The Magazine was a labor of love for NorthPark and our entire team, and represents the concerted efforts of many talented partners from concept to completion. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed producing it. View full issue.
