Deep-Fried Fun: B+C Fair Day 2017

October 19, 2017 Wes Phelan
FairDay2017_Header.jpg

With the cool breeze of fall fighting its way into our city, a familiar face has risen in the distance. His jovial visage and patented Texas duds stand proudly in the middle of Fair Park. Its Big Tex, and the State Fair of Texas is upon us. Like moths to a greasy plume of fried aromas, we recently donned our custom fair shirts and made our annual trip to this Dallas tradition. There, we indulged in culinary abominations like Deep Fried Froot Loops and Fletcher's Corny Dogs. We rode fist-clinching rides, and played carnival games. We even purchased mattresses! And we did it all with a healthy dose of good old-fashioned cold beer. This is how we do Fair Day, and it's alway deep-fried fun. Check out some of our antics from this year.

Hot Corn Dog and Cold Beer: Banowetz Fair Day fun

October 20, 2015 Wes Phelan

Each year at about this time, Banowetz + Company Production Manager Dawn Grimes can be heard roaming throughout the office with her not-so-subtle rallying cry “Corn-Eee-Dawg!” It’s our tip-off that it’s Texas State Fair time (as if we could miss it, being across the street from the fairgrounds) and that the legendary Banowetz Fair Day is soon approaching.

This year, with our staff bigger than ever, we had several rookies who had not yet done the fair “Banowetz-style” and had to be introduced to the rituals of this special event. First stop, Fletcher’s Corny Dogs (hence Dawn’s battle cry); next stop, four-coupon beer (or at least that’s what it was 15 years ago, and we’re still calling it that even though it’s now eight-coupon beer). After that, we eat a smorgasbord of fried items. From there, it’s a toss-up, with a combination of rides, attractions and sampling food finalists’ concoctions, accompanied by general goofiness and tomfoolery.

We’d like to say “what happens with Big Tex stays with Big Tex...” but we’ve got photos! Enjoy!

Howdy Folks!: Banowetz + Co. Fair Day Fun

October 7, 2014 Wes Phelan

Whoo hooooo! It’s Texas State Fair time again! And that of course means Banowetz + Co. Fair Day. Once again, we did it up right with way too much food, a cold beer — or two — and a handful of rides (because nothing goes better with rich, greasy food and alcohol than being tossed upside down a few dozen times). We also made a concerted effort to sample all the 2014 Big Tex Choice Award finalists, and although we had an ambitious plan, we only managed to put a small dent in the list due to being distracted by other food items. But in the end, no one went home hungry. On the contrary, I don’t think any of us ate again until noon the next day, due to the massive culinary intake! Here’s a summary of our day in fair fare and what we thought of it (we’re a tough crowd) and a few fun pics of the day’s events:
